Get to know me, Eddie Gonzalez.
Between 1966 and 1969 my parents and their families came to this great country from Cuba, escaping Castro's oppression.
I was born in 1980 in Miami, Florida to Ramon Gonzalez and Clara Macias. I graduated from Barbara Goleman Senior High in 1999.
My father had a long and rewarding career with the Miami Herald. He worked his way up from newspaper delivery to State Distribution Manager. He retired in 2008 after 36 years of dedicated service. My mother has a thriving dental practice with offices in both Dade & Broward counties and is a successful small business owner. I also have an older brother who has a management career in the hospitality industry. Seeing the tenacity and accomplishments that my family has achieved throughout their careers has given me a very strong work ethic.
I entered the work force at 18; I have worked a multitude of positions from manual labor to cushy desk jobs and everything in between. I have worked for minimum wage, tips, salary and commission at some point in my job history. I represent the working class that has been ill served by this Congress.
I am currently pursuing the upward mobility that higher education affords by attending a local state college to obtain my Bachelors degree in Business.
I am married to the love of my life, Kallie. She is the most beautiful woman in the world to me and we look forward to starting a family of our own. It is my hope to improve this country for my future children as "we do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children." Now is the time to make this a better country for us all.
I do not have a political pedigree. I am not jaded by years of political servitude. No favors are owed to insiders or lobbyists. My judgment is not clouded by backdoor deals, mudslinging, or bitter partisanship that is usually the result of a long political career.
I offer a clean slate and complete departure from political favoritism and nepotism that is prevalent in our current Congress. I have no one's coattails to ride on. I do however, offer a breath of fresh air running as an Independent candidate offering "New Energy, New Ideas" into a stale, stalled and separated two-party political system. Currently there is no one representing the Independent voters in The U.S. House of Representatives, despite the fact that 34% of Americans consider themselves Independent.
I, along with a majority of Americans (11% approval ratings for Congress) feel that career politicians have lost touch with the working class. The 249 millionaires and 202 lawyers that are in Congress are not a true representation of this nation as a whole. They are the silver spooned elite that are guiding this country on an unsustainable course. We cannot continue to follow them into record deficits, crushing debt and endless dependence on oil for their own personal gains or indifference. To paraphrase Winston Churchill, "The Era of procrastination, of half measures… of delays, is coming to its close. In its place we enter a period of consequences."
We are now living with the consequences thrust upon us by the narrow minded, pretentious, and privileged few.
Now is the time for "New Energy, New Ideas." - VoteForEddie.Com
